Dedication, Sacrifice, Triumph: A UPSC Aspirant’s Unstoppable Spirit
What does it take to break free from a life of struggle? Grit, determination, and an unshakable will to succeed.
Imagine being born into a family where daily wages barely cover meals. Imagine working as a laborer in your school years just to support your family. Imagine balancing a job in the Delhi Police Department while studying for the toughest exam in the country.
For Ram Bajan Kumar, this was not imagination, it was his reality. And after years of relentless effort, he finally turned his dream into reality by securing Rank 667 in the 2022 UPSC Civil Services Examination!
A Childhood Marked by Struggles
Hailing from Bapi, a small village in Rajasthan’s Dausa district, Ram Bajan’s childhood was anything but easy. His parents, both daily wage laborers, worked tirelessly to keep food on the table.
“I studied in a government school in my village. But to support my family, I had to work as a laborer during school hours. Life was tough, but I never stopped dreaming.”
Despite financial hardships, he pushed himself academically. After completing his 12th grade, he was selected as a constable in the Delhi Police. But this was just the beginning of his journey.
Balancing Duty and Dreams
Most people would settle for a stable government job, but Ram Bajan was different. His dreams were bigger. He didn’t want to stop at being a police constable, he wanted to become a civil servant and make a real difference.
“Along with my job, I pursued my graduation and post-graduation through self-study at Rajasthan University. In 2012, I cleared the NET/JRF exam in Hindi. That same year, I got married to Anjali Kumari.”
In 2015, inspired by his senior officers, he made a bold decision, to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, known as one of the most challenging exams in India.
Failing, Learning, and Rising Again
Success doesn’t come easy. Ram Bajan attempted the UPSC exam multiple times, but the journey was filled with setbacks.
📌 2018: He wrote the Mains exam but failed to qualify for the interview.
📌 2019-2021: Despite repeated efforts, he couldn’t clear the final stages.
📌 2022: After years of persistence, he finally cracked the UPSC exam and secured Rank 667.
A Grueling Study Routine
How did he do it? Unbreakable discipline and an iron will.
7-8 hours of daily study while handling the demanding responsibilities of his police job.
One-month study break before the exam, using resources from Mukherjee Nagar (Delhi’s coaching hub).
Support from his family—his mother and wife took care of household responsibilities while he focused on his studies.
“There were days when I felt exhausted, juggling work and studies. But I reminded myself why I started. I didn’t want to just dream—I wanted to achieve.”
The Power of a Mentor
In every success story, there’s a guiding force. For Ram Bajan, it was Firoz Alam, a fellow Delhi Police officer who had cracked UPSC in 2019 and became an ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police).
“Firoz sir created a WhatsApp group for aspirants like me. He shared study materials, tips, and even helped us prepare for interviews. His guidance was invaluable.”
From Constable to Bureaucrat: A Story of Hope
Today, Ram Bajan Kumar is no longer just a Delhi Police constable. He is a future civil servant, a beacon of hope for every student who dares to dream despite hardships.
His journey proves that success isn’t about where you start, it’s about how hard you fight for it.
If Ram Bajan Kumar can make it, so can you. Keep going, keep believing.
