
How Three Ahmedabad Class 10 Students Are Transforming Paralysis Care with AI Gloves
In a significant achievement for school-level innovation in India, three Class 10 students from Zebar School, Ahmedabad — Kavan Patel, Devarsh Patel, and Veer Manvar — have been awarded the second prize in the national-level Technology and Innovation Initiative organized by Vivo India. Their AI-based project, a pair of intelligent wearable gloves designed to assist paralysis patients, stood out among more than 37,000 student participants from CBSE and NCERT-affiliated schools across the country.
Concept Rooted in Empathy, Designed with Precision
The idea stemmed from a deeply personal experience. When Kavan’s grandmother suffered from paralysis, the trio began to explore how artificial intelligence and wearable technology could support mobility for patients with limited motor function. Under the mentorship of AI educator Nidhi Trivedi, they conceptualized a solution that reflects both technical ingenuity and social impact.
Their project involves a pair of AI-enabled gloves—one robotic, the other smart. The healthy hand wears the smart glove, equipped with sensors made from aluminum foil and AI algorithms, while the paralyzed hand wears the robotic glove. Movements made by the smart glove are mirrored by the robotic glove, enabling the user’s affected hand to regain motion through synchronized action.
From Prototype to National Recognition
The concept was initially developed in November 2024 and submitted as a written proposal. After being shortlisted, the team created a functional prototype within 10 days and submitted a demonstration video. Their project was among 200 ideas selected from over 5,600 national entries to participate in the final round held in Delhi.
At the event, students underwent interviews, live demonstrations, and evaluations by IIT professors, along with representatives from CBSE and NCERT. The trio’s outstanding performance earned them second place and a cash prize of ₹6 lakh.
