Harshita Goyal: The Chartered Accountant Who Became UPSC’s Rising Star

In every UPSC result season, there’s one story that captures the heart of the nation. In 2024, that story belonged to Harshita Goyal, a young woman who transformed her dream of public service into reality by securing All India Rank 2 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

Her journey is not just about cracking one of India’s toughest exams; it’s about purpose, perseverance, and passion.

From Haryana Roots to Gujarat Dreams

Born in Haryana and raised in Gujarat, Harshita’s early years were shaped by the values of hard work and compassion. Growing up in the “city of diamonds,” she saw how determination and discipline could change lives  and she decided early on that her success would be meaningful only if it served others.

After completing her B.Com from MS University of Baroda, Harshita pursued Chartered Accountancy, proving her academic brilliance. But even with a promising career ahead, her heart was drawn to something deeper: the desire to serve the nation and be a voice for those unheard.

Turning Dreams Into Discipline

For Harshita, becoming a civil servant was never about prestige, it was about purpose. She dreamed of influencing policies that could make a real difference in people’s lives.

During her UPSC preparation, she followed a strict yet flexible routine. Instead of comparing herself to others, she focused on consistency, clarity, and self-belief. Her biggest advice to aspirants?

“Know your learning style, plan around it, and trust yourself, that’s what makes all the difference.”

Unlike many, Harshita didn’t see social media as a distraction. She turned it into a learning tool following educational pages, joining discussion groups, and keeping her digital space focused on growth.

Real Experience Before the Rank

Even before her UPSC success, Harshita had already stepped into the world of governance and public engagement. Her active participation in the Gujarat Youth Parliament and her stint with the Ministry of Law and Justice gave her first-hand experience in policy-making and legal systems.

These experiences strengthened her belief that true change begins at the grassroots level through empathy, understanding, and inclusion.

Alongside her professional pursuits, she volunteered with the Believe Foundation, an NGO that supports thalassemia and cancer patients. There, she learned the true essence of compassion, understanding real human struggles and the urgent need for better healthcare and welfare systems in India.

Balancing Duty with Creativity

Behind Harshita’s strong and disciplined personality lies a creative soul. Acrylic painting is her escape, a way to channel emotions, find calmness, and stay connected to herself.

She often says creativity adds empathy to leadership  and her art reflects that balance beautifully. It’s a reminder that even in the world of exams and governance, emotional intelligence matters as much as intellect.

Championing Women’s Empowerment

Harshita’s journey also carries a powerful message for women across India. Having witnessed the social and structural barriers women face, she is determined to push for policies that promote equal access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for all.

She believes that women’s empowerment is not just about representation it’s about real inclusion and recognition.

Her story is a call to every young woman who dares to dream:

“You don’t have to fit into the system, you can change it.”

An Inspiration for a New Generation

From being a small-town girl with big dreams to becoming UPSC’s AIR 2, Harshita Goyal’s story is one of courage, clarity, and compassion.

She reminds us that success is not about shortcuts or luck, it’s about having the grit to stay consistent and the heart to serve selflessly.

As she steps into India’s administrative system, Harshita represents the new generation of leaders  educated, empathetic, and empowered. Her journey continues to inspire thousands of aspirants who believe that with purpose and persistence, no dream is too distant.
