From Chalkboard to AI: Jhansi Teacher Creates “Madam Suman” With Just ₹2,900
When we think of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, most of us imagine billion-dollar projects or futuristic schools with high-end technology. But in a small village in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, one humble teacher has rewritten this story with innovation, passion, and just ₹2,900.
Meet Mohanlal Suman, an assistant teacher at the Composite School in Rajapur village. He has become a symbol of how creativity and determination can break barriers in education. His invention is an AI-powered humanoid teacher named “Madam Suman” and is now creating ripples across the nation.
The Birth of “Madam Suman”
Mohanlal noticed that teaching often suffered when teachers were pulled away for non-academic duties like supervising mid-day meals or handling election work. This meant students lost valuable learning time. Instead of accepting the problem, he decided to create a solution.
Using a mannequin frame, a servo motor, wiring, and an AI assistant software, he gave life to “Madam Suman.” For less than the cost of a smartphone, Mohanlal created an AI teacher that never tires, never loses patience, and makes every child feel valued.
Transforming the Classroom Experience
Since her introduction in May 2025, “Madam Suman” has completely changed the atmosphere in classrooms. Students are now more curious, more excited, and most importantly, more regular.
- Attendance has skyrocketed from 65% to 95%.
- Children look forward to her engaging way of teaching.
- She praises correct answers and encourages students with riddles and fun interactions.
As Mohanlal puts it: “She is indefatigable in answering all kinds of questions. She never loses patience and motivates every child.”
Recognition and Record-Breaking Achievement
On September 15, 2025, Mohanlal’s innovation earned him a place in the India Book of Records for creating an AI humanoid teacher with the minimum investment. The recognition was officially awarded by Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, the chief editor of the India Book of Records.
But this is not Mohanlal’s first brush with innovation.
- In 2020, he received a national award from the Union Education Minister for his online platform “Kaun Banega Lockdown Genius,” which ran for 222 days during the Covid-19 pandemic, connecting students across India and even abroad.
- He also developed “Blackboard Express” to help underprivileged children, making learning accessible and fun.
Why This Story Matters
Mohanlal Suman’s journey is proof that innovation in education doesn’t need huge budgets. It needs vision and dedication. By combining a simple mannequin with AI tools, he not only solved a local problem but also showcased a model that schools across India could replicate.
His success teaches us three important lessons:
- Innovation is about solving real problems, not just using fancy tools.
- Education can be transformed with small but powerful ideas.
- One teacher’s creativity can inspire an entire generation of learners.
A Vision for the Future
As AI continues to shape the world, stories like Mohanlal’s show us how India’s educators can lead with ingenuity. “Madam Suman” is not just a robot in a classroom. She represents a future where learning is engaging, inclusive, and accessible, even in the remotest parts of the country.
Mohanlal’s achievement proves that when passion meets purpose, even the smallest investment can create record-breaking results.
